Nestor Ramirez has been with the USPTO for over 32 years during which he has served as a Primary Examiner, Supervisory Patent Examiner, Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner for Patent Resources and Planning and Director of the Office of Patent Automation (OPA) where he was responsible for numerous patent automation initiatives. For almost three years, Mr. Ramirez served as a managing partner in charge of overseeing the implementation of the electronic Image File Wrapper (IFW) to the entire examining corps. The IFW project was the first step in the USPTO's transition to a paperless environment. During his career, Mr. Ramirez, has also received three Bronze Medals and in 2008 was selected to join the ComSci Fellowship Program participating on a one year assignment to the Executive Office of the President where he served as the Executive Director of the National Science and Technology Council. During his career he has been involved on numerous special projects which resulted on the implementation of the initiatives such as the SPE Management Database (SMD), the electronic red folder, the deployment of dual monitors to examiners, the WebTA system, the conversion to paperless PALM reports, the Docket Management element, the General Policy Libraries and the TC Management Guidelines to name a few. Currently, Mr. Ramirez is Acting Assistant Commissioner for Patents and a Technology Center Director overseeing the operation of art units in the area of cryptography, cybersecurity and networking.
