Mayor of Ridgway, CO
John Clark is a Colorado native, born and raised in Boulder. He moved to Ridgway in 1982, where he’s been involved in local government in various forms since the mid-eighties. After serving on the Planning Commission for about 15 years, he was appointed to Town Council in 2000 and served as Mayor Pro Tem until he was elected Mayor, in 2012. He’s now in his fifth two-year term as Mayor. John made his living as a glass artist from 1985 until the early ‘aughts’, when he made the unusual transition to being Ridgway’s Mac Doctor, doing computer consulting, classes and repairs on Apple devices. The establishment of Ridgway as a Colorado Certified Creative District in 2013 is one of the things that John is proudest of, in terms of his accomplishments as a public servant in Ridgway. “The incredibly vibrant new identity that Ridgway has gained through its years as a Creative District is really something to behold” says John. “I used to tell people where I lived, and they’d say ‘where’s that?’; now they say ‘oh, I love Ridgway, it’s so cool!’; that’s how far we’ve come.”
