Victoria Augustine is a Supervisory Patent Examiner (SPE) at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In this role, she is responsible for supervising examination in Art Unit 3686, Healthcare Business Methods. Prior to her current role in Technology Center 3600, she served as a Resource Supervisory Patent Examiner at the Elijah J. McCoy Midwest Regional Office in Detroit, Michigan.  There, in addition to supporting on-site examiners in various technologies, she focused on outreach to the Greater Detroit Inventor Community. She has been a guest lecturer in senior and graduate level courses at The University of Michigan College of Engineering, Lawrence Technological University, Notre Dame University, and The University of Michigan Law School, among others. She completed the Excellence in Government Fellowship at the Partnership for Public Service in March 2020, and is serving as a Co-Coach for the Spring 2021 Cohort. She has also completed 60 hours of Career Coach training through the University of Government Coaching and is working toward International Coaching Federation certification. Ms. Augustine began her career at the USPTO in July 2007 as an examiner in Technology Center 3700 specifically addressing applications in the area of Medical Devices, including catheters, syringes, insulin pumps, and related technologies. In 2012, Victoria advanced to the role of Primary Examiner and served as a Quality Nominee on the Cooperative Patent Classification System transition. She was also a Training Assistant with the first Entry Level Patent Training Academy class in Detroit. Ms. Augustine received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Biomedical Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
