Mary Jo Vasquez is second generation Mexican, American with Indigenous roots. She completed her undergrad earning a Bachelor’s of Social Work and a Cultural Broker and works at Safe Shelter of St Vrain Valley in Longmont, CO as a Bilingual Advocate/Counselor. Mary Jo has over 4 years working at Safe Shelter and collectively 16 years of advocacy experience. Her diverse background touches many areas of gender based violence including legal advocacy, crisis response and de-escalation tactics, crisis training and education with law enforcement, judges’ and systems advocates, bilingual outreach, child and teen advocacy, advocate supervision, substance abuse support, mental health support, shelter advocacy, migrant/homeless outreach, and IPV advocacy.
