Jennifer Nelson, Esq., is a Legal Orientation Program Supervisory Attorney. The Legal Orientation Program (LOP) is a vital program that provides legal information and pro se support to individuals who are detained by immigration officials. Jenn manages RMIAN's LOP, which serves individuals at the ICE detention facility in Aurora. She received her undergraduate degree in International Relations with a focus on international human rights law from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Her experience as an international student and her passion for social justice inspired her to attend law school, and to work towards a career in immigrant rights. As a law student at the University of Michigan, Jenn worked as a student attorney in the Human Trafficking Clinic representing survivors of labor and sex trafficking. She also participated in Michigan's Program in Refugee and Asylum Law and spent a semester working in the Statelessness Project and in the Refugee and Migrant Rights Clinic at Lawyers for Human Rights in Johannesburg, South Africa. After law school, Jenn clerked for Chief Judge Loeb at the Colorado Court of Appeals. Prior to joining RMIAN, Jenn served as an Attorney Advisor for the Louisville Immigration Court through the U.S. Attorney General's Honors Program. Jenn is admitted to practice in Colorado and in her free time she enjoys reading, hiking with her dog, and making pottery.
