Cheryl Layne began her career with the Colorado Judicial branch in 1989, after graduating from college at Metropolitan State College with a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies.  She furthered her career by moving to Douglas Combined courts and accepting the position as Clerk of Court for Douglas Combined Courts. Cheryl has maintained all administrative functions of the Clerk of Court for both, a metropolitan and rural court, for the last fourteen years.  She assumed the role of acting Clerk of Court for Arapahoe combined courts for five months during staffing changes, while still managing all other locations.  Cheryl has worked as a Project Coordinator on the Criminal e-file project to assist in the roll out of new computer software for the entire district.   She assisted in the implementation of the Self Help Center for Douglas and Elbert. She also coordinated a Specialist position from the Clerk's Office to assist with division staff coverage during vacation and staffing shortages for both courts.  Restructured the infractions process with the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's office and implemented a consistent practice to be utilized in both, Douglas and Elbert Courts.  Managed Elbert Courts during the remediation of the Elbert Courthouse and moved the courts to Douglas in the interim. Cheryl is a member of the Clerk's Advisory Committee, Civil Rules Committee, Legislation Committee, Public Access Committee and Security, Court Service Standing Committee, and Emergency Response Committee.
