Juvenile District ProbationShawn Cohn has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with emphasis in Juvenile Delinquency, minor in Psychology from Metropolitan State College. Shawn started her probation career in the 17th Judicial District Probation Department in July, 1992. During her career as a probation officer, she managed a caseload of juvenile probationers including a JISP caseload and developed a female gender specific caseload (FISP). She created and facilitated a female gender specific curriculum. In August, 2000, she was promoted to Probation Supervisor where she provided supervision to a Juvenile Probation Unit comprised of regular, specialized, and SB94 contracted officers. She created and secured funding for numerous specialized programs/positions to address these problem areas including SOJISP, a Female Community Resource Officer, a day reporting/treatment program called Recognizing Opportunities for Change (R.O.C), a Detention Release Officer and Detention Cap Liaison. She was involved in the development and maintenance of a multi-disciplinary team (Connections) charged with staffing cases, approving funding for out of home placement, considering heightened supervision and making recommendations to the court. Shawn was promoted to Chief Probation Officer for Denver Juvenile Probation in July 2006. She serves on numerous State and Local committees and is the current Vice-chair for the State SB-94 Advisory Board, Co-Chair of the Denver Crime Prevention and Control Commission.
