Honorable Hildy Bowbeer was appointed a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Minnesota in June 2014.  Prior to her appointment, she was an attorney with 3M Company's Legal Affairs department, first managing product liability and mass tort litigation and then, for thirteen years, managing the company's intellectual property litigation both in the U.S. and internationally.  Judge Bowbeer received her law degree from the University of Michigan in 1979.  She served as a law clerk to Justice C. Donald Peterson of the Minnesota Supreme Court, then joined the Minneapolis law firm of Gray, Plant, Mooty, Mooty and Bennett.  In 1985, she became one of the seven founding partners of Bowman and Brooke, where she had a national trial and appellate practice in products liability litigation before joining 3M in August 1997.   She is an active participant in the Sedona Conference Patent Litigation Best Practices projects, and has written and spoken frequently on IP litigation management, electronic discovery, and alternative dispute resolution.
