Livia D. Barndollar
Livia Barndollar is a Past President of the Connecticut Bar Association and Past Chair of the Family Law Section of the Association. She has been a member of the Executive Committee of the CBA Family Law Section since 1996 and has served as the Section's Treasurer, Secretary, Continuing Legal Education Office, its Vice Chair and Chair. Ms. Barndollar has served as the senior topical editor for family law of the Connecticut Bar Journal since 2000, publishing a survey of significant cases in family law over a five+ year period, in the Journal. Ms. Barndollar was the Editor in Chief of the Bar Journal from 1994-1997, has served as an editor of the Journal since 1985 and as its Senior Topical Editor for family law since 2000. She also serves as an editor at large of The Family Advocate, published by the Section of Family Law, American Bar Association. She has been published in the Connecticut Lawyer and in the Connecticut Law Tribune. She wrote the chapter on alimony of the Connecticut Divorce Handbook. Ms. Barndollar has been named a Connecticut Super Lawyer® , in Family Law every year since 2007. Ms. Barndollar has served as the Parliamentarian of the American Bar Association, Family Law Section Council and just completed a cycle as a delegate to the Council. Actively involved in State bar activities for many years, Ms. Barndollar has served as the Secretary, Vice President, President-Elect, President and Immediate Past President of the Connecticut Bar Association, on its House of Delegates and Board of Governors, as the chair of the CBA Pro Bono Committee and the Legislation Review Committee as well as of the Connecticut Council of Bar Presidents. She has served on numerous CBA task forces, was the co-chair of the Solo and Small Firm Section and a member of the CBA Publications Committee, both for multiple years. Currently, she serves on the CBA's Committee on Professional Ethics and its Standing Committee, on the Fair and Impartial State Judiciary, a committee that she appointed when she was President of the Association, and in the CBA House as the representative of the Family Law Section. She served as the chair of the Task Force on Civics Education in Connecticut schools and has served multiple years as a member of the CBA Nominating Committee. She is a Sustaining Life Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation, serves on its Board, and has served as the Chair of its Nominating Committee and Fellows Nomination Committee. She has lectured on topics other than family law, often including professionalism and the rule of law, to the bar in these different roles, and has delivered a number of addresses at the request of the Supreme Court such as for Law Day 2009 and several of the new admittees' induction ceremonies. Ms. Barndollar is presently in her fourth term as a State delegate to the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association, served a three year term on the Board of the New England Bar Association and was a member of the National Conference of Bar Presidents from 2006-2010. She is a member of the American Counsel Association, and on its Board of Directors and was an ex officio member of The American Law Institute. Ms. Barndollar also serves as a Board member of the Connecticut Legal Services. Ms. Barndollar has served or is serving as a family special master to the Regional Family Trial Docket for contested custody cases, the Bridgeport, Stamford and Milford Judicial Districts. Ms. Barndollar served on the Judicial Performance Evaluation subcommittee of the Chief Justice's Strategic Plan in 2008-2009. Ms. Barndollar has contributed her time to legal services for the poor, being honored at the Connecticut Legal Services annual meeting for her contributions to the development of legal services funding during the 2009 legislative session, has represented indigent clients, was a founding member of the environmental group, SoundWaters, and served on the Board of Directors of the Stamford YWCA, including its Domestic Violence Center board. She is also proud to be a volunteer to the Truancy Intervention Project, a Connecticut Bar Foundation project.
