Judge Leonard Davis was appointed to the Federal Bench in 2002 and is currently the Chief Judge of the Eastern District of Texas. The Eastern District's patent docket has grown over the years since his appointment from only a few cases to one of the largest in the nation. Many of the cases have gone on to become landmark patent decisions of the Federal Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to his appointment to the Federal Bench, Judge Davis served as Chief Justice of the Twelfth Court of Appeals of the State of Texas and also was a civil trial attorney in East Texas for over 23 years. In 2012, he was named “Baylor Lawyer of the Year”. In 2013, he was named “Jurist of the Year” by the American Board of Trial Advocates, Texas Chapter. Judge Davis currently serves on the Judicial Council of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and on the Federal Circuit Advisory Council Committee on Case Management. He is co-chair of the Federal Judges Committee of the Federal Circuit Bar Association. Judge Davis attended Baylor University School of Law where he graduated cum laude and first in his class in 1976. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Baylor Law Review and a member of Baylor's Interscholastic Moot Court and Mock Trial Teams.
