GEM Family Law, LLCThe Honorable Judge Jennifer B. Torrington (ret.) served with distinction as a judicial officer from 2004 until 2025 in Denver, Colorado, presiding in domestic, criminal, civil, and juvenile divisions. She has dedicated her professional life to working with families and children involved with the judicial system, and to serving the public with compassion, respect, and fidelity to law. Judge Torrington is currently Special Counsel for the law firm GEM Family Law, LLC. Judge Torrington serves as a consultant for their dynamic and talented attorney group, and also provides dispute resolution services. She believes that mediation, arbitration, and private judge services allow parties to find durable solutions and a peaceful path forward, for themselves and their children. Judge Torrington was honored to receive the: (1) Distinguished Jurist Award from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Colorado Chapter, in 2020; (2) Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System Rebuilding Justice Award, in 2025, with her colleagues on the Paraprofessionals and Legal Services Subcommittee; and (3) the Metro Volunteer Lawyers Award Top Denver Bar Association Volunteer 2025. Judge Torrington has served as a member for organizations and committees focused on families and children including the following: Colorado Child Support Commission, co-chair of Licensed Legal Paraprofessionals (LLP) Subcommittee of the Colorado Supreme Court Advisory Committee, LLP Exam - Family Law Development Panel, LLP Exam - Ethics Development Panel, Judicial Well-Being Committee, APA and Judicial Task Group: Division of Child Support Enforcement Member, Advisory Board Member for the Behavioral Intervention in Child Support Grant, C.C.R. Volume 6 Revision Committee Workgroup Member, S.B. 94 Committee Member, Youth Development Court Planning and Advisory Committee Member, Youth Development Mental Health Court Planning and Advisory Committee Member. Judge Torrington also enjoys mentoring attorneys through the Metro Volunteer Lawyers Program as well as serving as a mentor to judicial officers assigned to a domestic division. Judge Torrington has completed Mediation and Advanced Mediation courses through the National Judicial College and the 40 Hour Mediation Training through the Colorado Bar Association. She has completed annual continuing legal education in the areas of family law, juvenile law, substance abuse and addiction, mental health needs, child development, domestic abuse, criminal law and procedure, and civil law and procedure. She also participated in ongoing legal education through organizations including the National Judicial College, the annual State Judicial Conference, the Family Law Institute, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the Domestic Relations & Probate Institute, and the Colorado Bar Association. Throughout her career, Judge Torrington has presented on diverse issues related to domestic law and practice for organizations including the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the Family Law Institute, the Domestic Relations & Probate Institute, the Licensed Legal Professionals Practicum, the Metropolitan Denver Interdisciplinary Committee, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants the Colorado Bar Association, the Advanced New Judge Orientation, the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System Family Court Convening, and the annual Colorado State Judicial Conference.
