Cheryl . Milone
Lee & HayesCheryl Milone founded Article One Partners (AOP) as an inventor, entrepreneur, patent community leader, and patent attorney. Article One crowdsources requests for patent research to its global community. AOP research is publicly available on ArticleOnePartners.com and is distributed to over 32,000 registered scientists and technologists across 170 countries. In exchange for what is considered to be the new industry standard for patent research, the AOP community receives premium compensation - more than $4.5 million has been paid to the community to date. Article One is to patents what social media is to friends. AOP also has a distinguished CEO, Marshall Phelps, who also is a former Corporate Vice President of IP Policy & Strategy for Microsoft and a former Vice President of IP & Licensing for IBM, and Board member Ruud Peters, former Executive VP & Chief Intellectual Property Officer Koninklijke Philips N.V. The most respected global companies and premier law firms have described AOP as revolutionizing the transparency of patent data. AOP clients include 18 of the top 30 companies most frequently targeted by non-practicing entities (NPEs, as provided by Patent Freedom), 34 of the Fortune Global 500 and premier law firms. Ninety percent (90%) of AOP's membership clients have achieved an invalidity decision or settled a patent litigation in at least one matter annually. Powered by the AOP community, these global brands gain patent research to defend against litigation, build their portfolios, conduct due diligence, monetize patents and improve the quality of patents and the integrity of the patent system. Ms. Milone's early success with AOP led to an invitation to the White House, as one of the top 50 most innovative CEOs in the U.S., to contribute to a forum on improving government customer service. Additional recognition includes AOP being named “Startup of the Year” in Startup 2009, a conference co-hosted by Business Insider and the New York University Stern School of Business. In this conference, Ms. Milone was chosen by an elite judging panel of venture capitalists and top technology industry leaders. In December 2009, Ms. Milone was chosen for the Silicon Alley 100 list of New York's digital business community leaders. She was also included among the top 300 IP Strategists by IAM Magazine for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2013, Ms. Milone was selected for the SmartCEO Brava! Awards as one of the 24 greater New York women business leaders with distinguishing achievements including local philanthropy. Before founding Article One, Ms. Milone practiced as a patent attorney and advocated before the USPTO with Darby & Darby (until 2006), Clifford Chance and Kenyon & Kenyon. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and has been published across brand media such as Forbes, Businessweek, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times, as well as numerous technology and IP publications. Ms. Milone also holds three issued U.S. patents with more than 12 pending patent applications on innovation for Article One, as well as other early inventions.
