Jill Rose Tappert, Esq., serves the Autism Society of Colorado (ASC) as the volunteer Director of Private Insurance Policy, a member of the Board of Directors and the Co-Chair of the Public Policy Committee. Until 2003, Ms. Tappert was traveling a successful career path as an attorney; that path forever changed course when her first child was born with serious medical concerns and was later diagnosed with autism. Since formally joining ASC in June 2009, Ms. Tappert has been instrumental in the implementation of recent legislation that requires certain private health insurance policies to cover treatments for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), including chairing meetings between providers and health plans, speaking with providers, families, state departments and health plans to address details of implementation and spearheading a statewide conference regarding the new law. She also co-chairs the Public Policy Committee that brings together advocates within the ASD community to work on policy matters throughout the state. Prior to joining ASC, Ms. Tappert had a long history of advocacy on behalf of the autism community, including successfully arbitrating against her private health insurance company to secure coverage for treatment for ASD.
