Merry H. Balson, Esq., is a founding partner of Balson Faix & McVey, LLP. Her practice focuses on estate planning, with an emphasis on international estate planning and charitable giving, trust and estate administration and representing tax exempt organizations. Ms. Balson received her B.A. in political science from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas (magna cum laude) in 1991, and her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law (Order of St. Ives) in 1997. Ms. Balson is a Fellow and the Colorado State Chair and Rocky Mountain Regional Chair of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), and a member of ACTEC's Charitable Planning and Exempt Organization Committee. She is also a member of the Trust and Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association, a member of the Section's Statutory Revisions Committee (chair, 2004-2005; co-chair, 2003-2004), former Co-Editor of the Section's quarterly newsletter, Council Notes (2005-2014) and former member of the Section's Executive Council (2005-2007). Ms. Balson has been selected among the Best Lawyers in America for Trusts & Estates (2007-2023), and a Colorado Super Lawyer for Nonprofit, Estate Planning & Probate 2012-2023) and is a frequent author and speaker for CLE in Colorado, Inc. and the Colorado Bar Association.
