Demetri E. Munn

Rico Munn, Esq., is active in Denver's legal and business communities. Clients benefit from his legal, political, regulatory and community service background. Mr. Munn has experience as lead counsel and first-chair trial attorney in complex and high-dollar matters. His work has included: Trial counsel for two major insurance companies in multimillion-dollar subrogation matters, Trial counsel for subsidiary of FORTUNE 100 company in breach of contract matter, Trial and motions counsel for multi-jurisdictional claims against FORTUNE 100 company; Trial and hearings counsel for state regulatory matters, Appellate counsel for national waste disposal company before Colorado Supreme Court, Motions counsel for major daily newspaper in multiple high-profile matters; and Responsible attorney for multiple matters related to regional defense of major product manufacturer and distributor. From 2007-2011, Mr. Munn served as a Cabinet member and advisor to Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. Mr. Munn was asked to serve in two different Cabinet positions: serving as the head of Higher Education where he was the CEO of a state agency responsible for oversight of nine percent of the State of Colorado's budget, and serving as the CEO of a 600-person agency managing the Divisions of Insurance, Real Estate, Civil Rights, Securities, Banking, Public Utilities, Consumer Counsel, Professional Licensing and Financial Services. In the latter, he was the State's chief regulatory official and was the No. 1 consumer of legal services in state government. These experiences give Mr. Munn a special perspective to understand the needs and frustrations of clients utilizing legal services and the challenges faced by businesses in a broad spectrum of industries. Mr. Munn is also very involved in community service. Among other things, he was appointed by Governor Roy Romer to the Law-Related Education Advisory Board and for many years he worked in the international human rights community. He is a graduate of the Leadership Denver program and serves on the boards of numerous community and legal organizations. In 2002, Mr. Munn was elected to represent Colorado's First Congressional District on the State Board of Education. In 2005, he was recognized as one of Denver's “40 Under 40” business and community leaders by the Denver Business Journal. In 2008, he was awarded a prestigious Marshall Fellowship, recognizing him as an upcoming leader in transatlantic relationships. Mr. Munn frequently presents seminars and publishes articles on topics ranging from legal ethics to current events to regulatory updates. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, teaching Trial Practice.
