Karen L. Brody

2nd Judicial District
Honorable Karen L. Brody has served as a judge in the Second Judicial District since 2014. She has presided over a civil and criminal division in Denver District Court, and is presently on her second rotation in the domestic relations division where she is the presiding judge, overseeing a restructure of the division and implementation of procedures and practices to better serve litigants and lawyers. The domestic relations division in Denver serves a diverse population of families, approximately 80% of whom are representing themselves and many of the district's cases involve high conflict, domestic violence, and substance abuse issues. Judge Brody's path to the bench was not traditional. After college, she received a master's degree in Economics from Tufts University and went to work for a Fortune 500 defense company for 9 years, and then went to law school. After working for Otten, Johnson, Robinson, Neff & Ragonetti, P.C., she served as a shareholder in the firm of Lowe, Fell & Skogg, LLC which she helped found. She had a diverse civil litigation practice, and developed a specialty in eminent domain litigation. She has litigated cases across the state of Colorado, the Colorado Court of Appeals, and Colorado Supreme Court as well as the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.
