Marie A. Moses

Honorable Marie Avery Moses is a judge for the 2nd Judicial District Court of Colorado. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Jared Polis on March 23, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Morris B. Hoffman. Prior to her appointment, Judge Moses was a partner at Lass Moses Ramp & Cooper, a law firm she joined in 2011. Before that, she spent time at Kelly Garnsey Hubbell & Lass (2008 to 2011) and Cook, Cooper & Moses (2004 to 2008). She specialized in family law and criminal defense matters. Judge Moses earned a bechelor's degree from the University of Virginia in 1992. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1995. After graduating from law school, she began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to Honorable Edwin G. Ruland of the Colorado Court of Appeals. She served in that capacity until 1997, at which time she entered into private practice at Gutterman Carlton & Heckenbach (renamed Gutterman Griffiths & Powell). Her memberships have included the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Colorado Bar Association. She has collaborated with the Colorado Legislature to draft legislation pertaining to uniform laws, civil unions, parenting time, decision-making authority, maintenance, child support, paternity, domestic violence, and third-party visitation issues.
