Constance D. Smith is a director with Fairfield and Woods, P.C. Ms. Smith specializes in tax and charitable planning for estate disposition, lifetime wealth transfers, trust and probate administration, nonprofits, and business succession. Her specialty is designing individualized plans to integrate tax savings, legal requirements, asset protection, and family dynamics to accomplish the client's goals. Ms. Smith works with wealthy families and complex estates as well as family-owned businesses and nonprofit organizations.
 
Ms. Smith has a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of California, followed by an M.B.A. from the University of Central Oklahoma and a J.D. and an LL.M. in taxation, both from the University of Denver. She is admitted to practice before Colorado, Texas, and Wyoming state courts; the U.S. Tax Court; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, and the Denver Bar Association. Ms. Smith is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), she is listed in the Best Lawyers in America, is an Accredited Estate Planner, has been named a Colorado Super Lawyer for many years, and was named as 2014 Barrister's Best for Trust and Estate Law. She is the past president and a current member of the Women's Estate Planning Council and the Denver Chapter of the Christian Legal Society. She is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council, the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils, the Professional Advisor's Committee of the Denver Foundation, the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce, and the Colorado Philanthropic Advisors Network. She is a co-editor for the Trust and Estate Section column of The Colorado Lawyer, is active with the Statutory Revisions Committee of the Colorado Bar Association Trust and Estate Section, and is a past Council member of that section.
