Honorable Linda Billings Vela was appointed Teller County Court Judge on October 1, 2011.  Prior to taking the bench in Teller County, Billings Vela served as a magistrate in the 4th Judicial District where she presided over the dependency and neglect and family treatment drug court dockets. She is assigned a general jurisdiction docket in Teller County; hearing civil, small claims, protection order, traffic and misdemeanor cases. Additionally, she currently presides over the El Paso County DUI Court docket in Colorado Springs. The El Paso County DUI Court program is designed to be consistent with national drug/DUI court best practices. Judge Billings Vela is a strong proponent of problem solving courts and their effective approach to promoting public safety while supporting rehabilitation and recovery of participants. From 1995 to 1997 and from 2001 to 2009 she worked in the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office where she prosecuted cases in juvenile court, county court, district court and the economic crimes division. From 1997 to 2001 she worked in private practice as an associate with Anderson Dude & Lebel on civil matters, school law, domestic relations and municipal utilities law.
