Stephen E. Smith
Stephen E. Smith, Esq., retired on February 1, 2011 from the position of Vice President and General Counsel for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, which he held since 1995. Smith now practices at the law firm of Sherman and Howard, LLC in Denver, Colorado where he is a member of the ADR and Litigation Practice Groups and co-chair of the Space Law Practice Group. Smith is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and is currently sitting as an arbitrator in major cases before the London Court of International Arbitration and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. He has acted as counsel in and managed a considerable number of U.S. domestic and international arbitrations and mediations, including proceedings before the AAA, ICDR, ICC and LCIA. He is active in a variety of professional activities relating to arbitration, including serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association, a U.S. Representative on the Commission on Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, as co-chair of the Corporate Counsel Subcommittee of the U.S. Council for International Business Committee on Arbitration, and as a member of the Steering Committee of the Corporate Counsel International Arbitration Group, which includes members from over 70 worldwide business entities. Smith is a frequent speaker on arbitration topics. He is also co-author of a chapter entitled “Arbitration of International Commercial Disputes” in the treatise Successful Partnering Between Inside and Outside Counsel published by the Association of Corporate Counsel and West Publishing.
