Barton S. Balis

Barton S. Balis, Esq., is the Managing Partner of Balis & Barrett, P.C. in Boulder, CO. He has been practicing law in Boulder County since 1971. Since 1982, his practice has emphasized primarily bankruptcy law, representing debtors, businesses and creditors in both liquidation and reorganization cases. In May, 1992, Mr. Balis passed the first certification exam given by the American Bankruptcy Institute in both the consumer and business areas. Mr. Balis has lectured extensively statewide on bankruptcy issues, including bankruptcy and divorce, prebankruptcy planning, real estate issues in bankruptcy, dischargeability of taxes, denial of discharge issues, use of paralegals in a bankruptcy practice and other related topics. In 1987 Mr. Balis founded the Boulder County Bar Association Committee on Bankruptcy Law and has served as its Chairman or Co-Chairman numerous times; he has been the state chair of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He attended Rutgers University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey where he received his Juris Doctor 1967-1970. He also attended the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, Wisconsin where he received his Bachelor of Arts, Psychology 1963-1967 and he graduated with honors. Mr. Balis is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Boulder County Bar Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and Faculty of Federal Advocates.
