Deputy Director Alternate Defense Counsel
Roberta M. (Bert) Nieslanik, Esq., has been the Deputy Director of the Colorado State Office of the Alternate Defense Counsel since 1997. She spent 11 years at the Colorado State Public Defender's Office before that time, managing two different trial offices.  She was in private practice for three years in Grand Junction, Colorado.  She teaches regularly at the National Criminal Defense College, the Western Trial Advocacy Institute, New York Defender's Institute, Indiana Public Defender Council's Trial Advocacy Program and the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy. She was the 1993 Jonathan Olom Award recipient. Bert has presented hundreds of times in programs and workshops across the United States on various topics related to criminal defense and trial practice.  She believes in the power of story, and she is blessed with a rich Irish-Catholic heritage that gave her the storytelling gene.  Her passion is to try to inspire each of us to be a little bit better than we are today.
