Walter M. Kelly II is a shareholder at Miller & Steiert, P.C., where his practice since 1996 has been limited to estate planning, trust and estate and administration, preparation of federal and state estate tax returns, probate, and selected estate litigation. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC). He is the past chair, vice-chair, and former secretary-treasurer of the Trust & Estate Council. He previously served two years as a member of the Colorado Trust and Estate Council (2003-2005). He is the past chairman of the Statutory Revisions Committee (SRC) of the Trust and Estate Section 2006-2007 and the past chair of the Risbry Subcommittee, which addressed the role of a personal representative in estate litigation. He was a five-year member of the Uniform Estate Tax Apportionment Act Subcommittee, which recommended adoption of the Act in Colorado, and served on the SRC subcommittees on Trust Decanting and Heirship Proceedings. He is on the subcommittee reviewing the Uniform Law Commission's recently completed draft of the Uniform Fiduciary Income and Principal Act. He authored a Colorado Lawyer article entitled “A Personal Representative's Right to Participate in a Will Contest,” published in April 2004. Since 2009, he has been annually listed in The Best Lawyers in America and since 2010 in Colorado Super Lawyers. He received his B.A. from the University of Vermont in 1970 and his J.D. from the University of Denver in 1973.
