Jim Buchanan received his undergraduate, law, and Master of Laws in Taxation degrees from the University of Denver. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, an Academician of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law, a “non-securities industry” member of the Board of Arbitrators of the National Association of Securities Dealers, has taught trusts and estates at the University of Denver College of Law, and is listed in Best Lawyers in America.

Throughout his legal career of more than three decades, presently as a member of the Lakewood law firm of Buchanan & Stouffer, Mr. Buchanan has focused his practice on personal estate and closely held business planning, primarily for entrepreneurs. He is one of the authors of the Colorado Estate Planning Forms book prepared by the Estate Planning Forms Committee of the Trust and Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association, of which he is former co-chair.
