Laurie A. Booras
Colorado Court of AppealsHonorable Laurie A. Booras was appointed to the Colorado Court of Appeals to fill one of the vacancies created by the retirements of Judges Rothenberg and Vogt. Booras grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma. She graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1982, and began her legal career at the Texas Attorney General's office defending against federal habeas corpus actions filed by state prisoners. From March, 1985, to November, 1990, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Travis County District Attorney's office in Austin, Texas, and the Bexar County District Attorney's Office in San Antonio, Texas. In 1991, Booras began working in the Colorado Attorney General's office in the Appellate Division, and was promoted to First Assistant Attorney General in January 2000. Booras has been a frequent lecturer for the Colorado District Attorney's Council, and presented several in-house CLE lectures at the Attorney General's Office. She served on the Colorado Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Rules of Criminal Procedure (2004 to 2008); acted as an advisory member of the Colorado District Attorney's Council Legislative Subcommittee (2000 to 2008) and participated in the Colorado Senate Judiciary Subcommittee, Consolidation of Colorado Sentencing Laws (2000-2003) and the Sentencing Reform Committee (2003 to 2006).
