The Honorable Angela R. Arkin is a 1983 graduate of Emory Law School, and is licensed in Colorado, Georgia, and the District of Columbia. In August 2000, after practicing law in Georgia and Colorado, Judge Arkin took the bench as a District Court Magistrate. In July 2002, Judge Arkin was appointed as a District Court Judge in the 18th Judicial District, and served in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties until her retirement on January 1, 2016. In March 2016, Judge Arkin created a self-represented resource center to provide unbundled legal services to pro se litigants. In May of 2017, Judge Arkin joined the Judicial Arbiter Group, Inc. (JAG), where her current practice includes ADR and appointed judge services. Judge Arkin chairs the Licensed Legal Paraprofessionals (LLP) Subcommittee of the Colorado Supreme Court Advisory Committee, is on the Douglas County Domestic Relations Best Practices Team, is a member and past-president of the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and participates in many other professional and volunteer activities. In 2015, Judge Arkin was chosen as the District Court Judge Honoree for the Colorado Judicial Institute Judicial Excellence Award. In 2017, Judge Al Harrell and Judge Arkin created the “Symposium on Race,” an ongoing forum for discussion of race issues (www.symposiumonracedenver.com ). Judge Arkin is a 2025 co-recipient of the Rebuilding Justice Award from the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS), was awarded the 2025 Mary Lathrop Trailblazer Award from the Colorado Women’s Bar Association, and received the 2025 “Pathmaker Award,” from Sister-to-Sister International, Inc., amongst many other awards and recognition for her service to the Colorado bench, bar, and Colorado families.
