5th Judicial DistrictThe Honorable Paul R. Dunkelman was appointed to the District Court Bench in 2013 and has handled a mixed docket including domestic relations, criminal, civil, juvenile, and mental health cases. Judge Dunkelman serves as the Chief Judge for the 5th Judicial District which encompasses Eagle County, Summit County, Clear Creek County and Lake County. Judge Dunkelman is currently the co-chair of the Domestic Relations Institute, the annual family law training held by the Colorado Judicial Branch for judges and court staff. Judge Dunkelman has regularly served as a presenter at the Domestic Relations Institute and the Family Law Institute. Prior to his appointment, Judge Dunkelman worked in private practice for twenty years most recently with the law firm of Carlson, Carlson & Dunkelman, LLC in Frisco, CO where his practice focused primarily on family law, criminal law, and civil litigation. Judge Dunkelman has been an active member of his community serving on the board of directors of many local non-profit agencies. He currently serves on the Board for the Mountain Chapter of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association. Judge Dunkelman received the Judicial Excellence Award from the Colorado Judicial Institute in 2021. Judge Dunkelman earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Colgate University in 1988 and a J.D. from the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver in 1993.
