Gretchen B. Larson

21st Judicial District
The Honorable Gretchen Larson was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. She attended Graland County Day and graduated from Overland High School in 1985. For college, she attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in French. Judge Larson graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1993. She worked for the District Attorney's Office- 21st Judicial District (Grand Junction) from 1993 until 1999. From 1999 until 2005 she worked for the District Attorney's Office- 9th Judicial District, in Glenwood Springs. She moved back to Grand Junction in 2005 and worked for the District Attorney's Office from 2005 until 2006. In 2006, she was appointed as a County Court Judge. She was on the county court bench until her appointment to the District Court bench in January 2017. In district court, she handled a mixed docket of criminal, civil, domestic relations, and dependency and neglect until July 2024. That July, she rotated into a specialized probate and mental health docket. As a component of the mental health docket, she started a criminal competency docket in November 2024. Judge Larson serves on the Dependency and Neglect Best Practices Team for her judicial district and is on the statewide Multi-District Litigation Panel. She was recently appointed to the statewide Judicial Discipline Adjudicative Board, and received the American Board of Trial Advocates Judicial Excellence Award in November 2024. In her free time, Judge Larson enjoys skiing, running, reading, and travel.
