Joan M. Bechtold is a member of Sweeney & Bechtold, LLC. in Denver, Colorado, and specializes in public interest litigation and employment law. Ms. Bechtold’s practice involves all aspects of employment law, with particular emphasis on representing plaintiffs in discrimination and wrongful discharge cases. Ms. Bechtold holds a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and received her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law. After graduating from law school, Ms. Bechtold spent a year as a law clerk for the Honorable Mary J. Mullarkey, former Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court. Ms. Bechtold has frequently lectured and written on employment law topics, and has been extensively involved in developing new legal rights and remedies for plaintiffs at the appellate level. Ms. Bechtold is a former board member of the Plaintiff’s Employment Lawyers Association in Colorado and chaired that organization’s amicus committee for many years. She is also a member of the amicus advisory counsel for the National Employment Lawyers Association and the Colorado Bar Association’s amicus brief committee and is a former Co-Chair of the Colorado Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section. Ms. Bechtold has been recognized as a Colorado Super Lawyer in the area of Employment Law.  In 2019, Ms. Bechtold also received the Richard N. Doyle CLE Award of Excellence for her dedication and outstanding contributions to CBA-CLE publications and programs.
