Raymond N. Satter

Senior Judge, Denver County Court
Honorable Raymond N. (Ray) Satter, (Ret.) is a Denver native who was admitted to the bar of the State of Colorado in 1973. He was in general civil litigation practice for 14 years before being appointed to the Denver County Court bench by Mayor Federico Peña in 1987. Judge Satter retired from that court in 2014, but currently serves as a Senior Judge. Judge Satter sat in the Traffic, Civil, Criminal and General Sessions divisions of the Denver County Court and was its presiding judge from January 1, 2001, until December 31, 2004. He was voted the “jolliest judge” by the Denver Bar Association in 1994, and is the recipient of the D.B.A.'s Judicial Excellence award for 1992 and 1995. He has lectured extensively to members of the bench and bar on contempt and recusal. Judge Satter was a member of the Colorado Supreme Court's Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure from 1988 until 2003. He has been a member of the Colorado Bar Association's Ethics Committee since 1986. Judge Satter obtained his B.A. in English and History from the University of Denver in 1970 and his Juris Doctor degree from the Catholic University of America in 1973.
