Rebecca R. Freyre

Honorable Rebecca R. Freyre has spent her entire legal career in public service. In 2015, she was appointed to the Court of Appeals where she serves as Chair of the Rules of Evidence Committee, Vice-Chair of Criminal Jury Instructions Committee, and as a PERA Trustee for the Judicial Division. She is a member of the Access to Justice Committee, and is an executive committee member of the Thompson Marsh Inn of Court. Judge Freyre began her legal career as a Deputy State Public Defender in the 18th Judicial District trial office. From 1990-2004, she represented clients in county, juvenile and district court.  She served as a member of the Aurora Gang Task Force, and the Colorado Children's Justice Task Force. In January 2005, she transferred to the Appellate Division of the Public Defender's Office and represented indigent convicted felons before the Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court. Judge Freyre graduated from Smith College in 1982, and after college, she worked in the financial services industry. She attended law school at night and graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1990.
