Rebecca R. Freyre

Colorado Court of Appeals

Judge Freyre was appointed to the Colorado Court of Appeals in 2015. Before joining the court, she practiced as a criminal appellate lawyer for the Colorado State Public Defender's Office for 11 years and as a trial deputy in the 18th Judicial District for 14 years. Judge Freyre graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1990 and received her bachelor's degree in economics from Smith College in 1982. Before law school, she worked in the financial services industry.

 
Judge Freyre was appointed as Deputy Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals in January 2022. She chairs the Colorado Rules of Evidence Committee, vice-chairs the Criminal Jury Instructions Committee, co-chairs the Criminal Bench Book Update Committee, and is a certified coach in the Judicial Department's Peer-to-Peer Coaching program. Judge Freyre serves on the executive committee of the Minoru Yasui Inn of Court, and she is the elected judicial division trustee for Colorado PERA.
