Marianne M. Tims

1st Judicial District Court
The Honorable Marianne Marshall Tims has been a District Court Magistrate in Jefferson County since 2004 and was the presiding District Court Magistrate from 2006 to 2020, with a fully diversified docket including domestic relations, child support enforcement, delinquency, dependency and neglect, paternity, adoption, relinquishment, and temporary and permanent civil protection orders. She was the District Court Magistrate in Gilpin County from 2012 to 2022. She has received a number of awards including the Distinguished Jurist Award from the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the Colorado Judicial Institute Judicial Excellence Magistrate of the Year Award, the Excalibur Award from Colorado Family Support Counsel and the Linda T. Palmieri Award for Outstanding Service to Children, the Excellence in Practice Spirit of the Summit Multi-Disciplinary Team Award,  and the Speaking up for Children Award from CASA. She was selected for and completed the Executive Leadership Development program through SCAO in 2017. She is currently a member of the Supreme Court Standing Committee on Civil Rules, the Licensed Legal Paraprofessional Oversight and Advisory Committee, and the Jefferson County Access to Justice Committee and previously served on the Sex Offender Management Board and the Colorado Child Support Commission. Prior to taking the bench, Magistrate Tims was an Assistant County Attorney in both Jefferson and Arapahoe counties handling mostly child protection cases and was in private practice where she emphasized family law and GAL work. She is a member of the Colorado Family-Juvenile-Probate Inn of Court, the Colorado Bar Association, the First Judicial District Bar Association where she has served on both the Board of Trustees and Board of Trustees, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the Colorado Women's Bar Association, the National Association of Counsel for Children, and the Colorado Magistrates' Association.  Magistrate Tims is a Judicial Peer-to-Peer Coach and has mentored other magistrates throughout Colorado.  She is a contributor to the 2021 Domestic Relations Bench Bar Book and authored the 2017 child support bench card for State Judicial and First Judicial District Spousal/Partner Maintenance Advisement. Magistrate Tims received a J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 1992 and a B.A. in Business Administration from Fort Lewis College in Durango in 1988.
