Jon Eggert, EdD, Acting Director of Psychology, was born and raised in a military family. Consequently, he lived and traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean as a youngster.  After his father's career in the Army came to an end, the family moved to Tucson Arizona where he attended high school and college.  Dr. Eggert completed his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and his master's degree in Counseling and Guidance at the University of Arizona. Following a period of related employment, Dr. Eggert began his doctoral training in Counseling Psychology at Northern Arizona University.  His doctoral research and practice involved working with Native American tribes and schools, throughout the state of Arizona, in the areas of substance abuse prevention, adult mentoring programs, and peer counseling programs.  Additionally, while completing his doctorate and post-doctoral residency, Dr. Eggert worked with students, couples, and families associated with Northern Arizona University.  Upon getting licensed in Arizona in 1999, Dr. Eggert was hired as the staff psychologist for a specialized school district in Northern Arizona serving adjudicated, incarcerated, and at-risk youth.For the past 12 years, Dr. Eggert has been employed at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHIP).  He began as a Unit Psychologist, on two intermediate security units, providing assessment and treatment to adult males who had been adjudicated Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI).  This position was followed by a promotion to Psychosocial Treatment Coordinator, which involved standardizing and implementing Contingency Management Systems (point/level systems) and overseeing evidence based, psychosocial treatments across the Institute For Forensic Psychiatry (IFP).  From May 2006 to December 2012, Dr. Eggert served as the IFP Division Chief Psychologist.  In this role, he was responsible for the overall supervision and performance management of 20 IFP Psychologists and 3 IFP Psychology Interns.  Furthermore, along with an on-going individual psychotherapy caseload of several patients, Dr. Eggert co-developed and co-offered two psychotherapy groups: Violence Risk Management and Reducing Aggression and Violence.  Beginning December 15, 2012, Dr. Eggert has been serving in the role of CMHIP Acting Director of Psychology.The bulk of Dr. Eggert's work and specialization at CMHIP has been in the area of violence risk assessment and violence risk management with Forensic inpatients and outpatients.  Over the years, he has received training from Drs. Hare, Wong, Gordon, Harris, Yates, and Hart, all of who are recognized experts in the field.  On June 18, 2010, Dr. Wong returned to CMHIP and provided follow up training on the Violence Risk Scale to the CMHIP, IFP Psychology Department.  To date, Dr. Eggert has completed 31 Violence Risk Assessments and reports, and has chaired 46 Disposition Committee Reviews along with authoring the associated Disposition Committee Reports.
