Kempe CenterKimberly Shipman, PhD, is Director of the Child Trauma Program at the Kempe Center, University of Colorado, School of Medicine. She is a developmental and child clinical psychologist (licensed in Colorado) with considerable clinical and research expertise in parental socialization of emotional development, child trauma, parent-child communication, and the development and dissemination of evidence-based mental health treatment in real world settings.
Dr. Shipman developed the AFFECT Program in collaboration with Dr. Fitzgerald based on their prior research. Currently, Dr. Shipman is PI on an OJJDP grant to evaluate the impact of enhancing the parental support component of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) through a clinical trial in collaboration with a large community mental health center. The community-based clinical trial will evaluate a strategic enhancement of trauma treatment with primarily Latino Families. Dr. Shipman is a certified national trainer for several evidence-based mental health treatments, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Dr. Shipman has received several federal grants (i.e., NIMH, OJJDP, SAMHSA) and is currently PI on a SAMHSA grant funded through the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative to bring trauma-informed evidence-based mental health treatment to communities throughout Colorado and to evaluate impact on clinician treatment practices.
