Autherine . Burleson
Autherine Lewis Burleson was born November 26, 1959 in Mobile, Alabama to Arthur Q. and Bertha Frazier Lewis, with six sisters and one brother. I attended parochial schools from first through eighth grade. My family moved to Houston, Texas when I was entering into high school. I skipped the 9th grade and attended Phyllis Wheatley High School, from which I graduated in 1977 with honors and a full ride academic scholarship to the University of Houston. In 1978, after experiencing a traumatic gunpoint rape in midday, downtown Houston, I moved to Denver and was employed by Colorado National Bank as a word processor. This experience quickly opened doors for me at a local law firm. I also met my husband Kraig at the bank whom I married in May of 1979. We have three children, Jamila, Hannah and Josiah. The continued development of my skills led me to my principal occupation as a legal assistant/paralegal. Through my career in the legal field, I was fortunate to work with some of most prominent and prestigious law firms and attorneys in the Denver metropolitan area, including but not limited to, Davis, Graham & Stubbs, Kelly, Stansfield & O'Donnell, Gorsuch, Kirgis, Campbell & Grove, Hellerstein & Shore, Law Offices of Shelley B. Don, Esq., Boris, Nemkov & Jahde, etc., etc. Unfortunately, an increasingly severe malady restricted my ability to continue working full-time. However, I continued to exercise the expertise acquired over 23 years in legal service to assist in a variety of ways in my church and community. Additionally, over the years, I
