Colorado Family Law ProjectMaha Kamal , Esq., was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado,and has built a family law career deeply rooted in her home state. A graduate of Smoky Hill High School's IB program, she earned her B.A. in International Affairs from CU Boulder and her J.D. from the University of Denver. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Urdu/Hindi, Maha brings a global perspective to her work, providing culturally attuned support to Colorado families. Maha has helped shape policy through her three terms on the Legislative Policy Committee and co-chairing the Supreme Court's PALS subcommittee, which launched Colorado's pioneering licensed legal paraprofessional program. Her influence is further underscored by her roles on the Colorado Bar Association's Executive Councils for Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. She is a five-time SuperLawyers Rising Star and a Top Lawyer by 5280 Magazine. In 2016, Maha founded the Colorado Family Law Project, offering sliding-scale, unbundled services to make family law accessible and client-focused. She was South Asian Bar Association's 2023 Receipt of the Service and Leadership Award, and an IAALS' Rebuilding Justice Award recipient, alongside her other distinguished colleagues. Beyond the courtroom, Maha's recent handbook, Colorado Family Law: A Trail Guide, provides an easy-to-understand roadmap for navigating family law, now available in English and Spanish. She also served the arts community as a board member of the Art Students League of Denver (2020-2024) and remains a trustee of the American Humanist Foundation. Maha's passion for creativity extends to her writing, as she works on her first collection of short stories, which has been published in outlets like the American Literary Review and Bombay Review.
