Rocky Mountain Medical Legal Consulting Inc
Wanda S. Marley, Ph.D., is a toxicologist and a physiologist with 28 years of experience as
an advanced-practice hospital clinician. She completed seven years of academia and research
for a doctoral degree in mammalian physiology at Colorado State University, followed by
two years of postdoctoral research. Before her PhD, she trained at the Mayo Clinic as an
anesthetist, and later completed a masters degree in anesthesia at the University of Kansas,
with an emphasis in toxicology. Dr. Marley has practiced anesthesia for general surgery,
orthopedic, neurosurgical, obstetric, and cardiovascular procedures for 14 years. This
provided in-depth experience with individuals suffering from acute or chronic effects of
alcohol and drugs, as well as a host of medical conditions that affect the body's response to
drugs and alcohol. She began her professional career as a Registered Nurse; providing care to
patients in critical care areas such as the emergency room and medical intensive care units.
Dr. Marley owns “Rocky Mountain Medical Legal Consultation” in Fort Collins, which is a
consulting business for criminal and civil cases involving alcohol, drugs, and the effects of
pathophysiological conditions. Today she will be discussing 1) how the 5000EN works by
infrared absorptiometry, 2) how various conditions may spuriously inflate a breath alcohol
test result, and 3) a host of uncontrolled variables which introduce uncertainty into the
forensic validity and reliability of breath alcohol test results.
