Karen . McKey
Denver Probate CourtKaren McKey grew up in the Denver metro area and received her B.A. in Psychology from Metropolitan State College and, in 2007, earned her J.D. from the University of Denver. Immediately following her undergraduate degree Karen worked for the Jefferson County Department of Human Services. During her ten years with Jefferson County, Karen worked in the Child Protection Unit coordinating and facilitating supervised visitation for children in foster care, provided intensive case management and program coordination for chronically homeless families in the Homeless Project and was a case worker for the JOBS program where she worked with parents to create and complete self-sufficiency plans. During law school, Karen focused on her work with Helping Empower through Alternative Resolution allowing her to teach peer mediation skills to middle and high school aged students. Karen had the opportunity to intern for the Honorable Judge Arkin and was able to turn that position into a fellowship upon graduation. She decided to stay with the judicial district and worked as a law clerk for four years in Douglas and Elbert counties. She worked in the private sector for a small family law firm but ultimately returned to the Judicial Branch to become a Protective Proceedings Monitor for the Denver Probate Court. The position is a nice cross between social work and the law satisfying Karen's interests in both. Outside of work Karen is a hockey mom who loves spending time with her family, outdoor activities and staying active.
