Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor LLPMelanie Sharp is an experienced jury trial lawyer whose practice focuses on intellectual property matters, particularly patent litigation, as well as complex commercial litigation, in both state and federal courts. She has tried numerous cases to verdict before juries and judges in federal and state court. She serves as Chair of the Commercial Litigation Section at Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP in Wilmington, Delaware. Melanie's trial skills have earned her recognition in Best Lawyers in America® (since 2003) and in Delaware Super Lawyers® in Intellectual Property and Business Litigation. Before entering private practice at Young Conaway in 1987, Melanie served as law clerk to The Honorable William T. Allen, Chancellor of the Court of Chancery of the State of Delaware. The Court of Chancery retains exclusive jurisdiction over matters in equity in Delaware and enjoys a national reputation for resolving sophisticated and complex corporate and business problems. Melanie received her B.A. degree from the University of Delaware and her J.D. degree from Temple University School of Law. She was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1986 and is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She has lectured on the topics of Markman hearings, jury trial practice, discovery, evidence, and ethics.
