Elizabeth (Liz) Kenny, Esq., is an Assistant Attorney General at the Colorado Department of Law. Liz spent her first ten years in practice as a public defender with the Colorado State Public Defender's Appellate Division, Greeley Regional Office, and Denver Trial Office. Liz also served as a public defender with the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, Mental Health Division, providing the equivalent of M1 and civil commitment defense as well as litigating mental health issues on behalf of PDS clients facing criminal charges. In addition to her work as a public defender, Liz served as the Facilities Team Leader for Colorado's protection and advocacy agency, Disability Law Colorado, addressing issues at the intersection of civil rights and disability rights for constituents residing in or facing placement in institutional settings. Liz joined the Colorado DOL in 2020. In her time at the Colorado DOL, Liz has served as general counsel for a variety of Boards and Commissions. Currently, Liz serves as General Counsel to the Colorado Board of Nursing and as litigation counsel on many of the Board of Nursing's litigation matters. Liz is also the Board of Nursing Team Leader, providing litigation and management support to the other attorneys serving as litigation counsel to the Board of Nursing. Liz graduated with a B.A. in History and a B.A. in Education from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2003. She graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in 2008 with a Juris Doctor.
