Amber McDonald, Ph.D., LCSW is the Deputy Director of and Assistant Professor for the Stress, Trauma, Research, Trauma & Adversity (START) Clinic at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. She is responsible for strategic planning, grant writing, research, clinical oversight and supervision in the clinical outpatient trauma-treatment center, with a specialty in complex trauma, human behavior, and development. She has taught nationally and internationally on topics related to forensic interviewing, investigations involving persons who are neurodiverse, human trafficking, co-response, and trauma. She provides violence clinical risk assessments to individuals and provides counseling services to individuals aged 3+, specializing in those who have experienced trauma. Further, she clinically manages a Colorado police-mental health co-responder team, is the Chair of the Colorado Co-Response Alliance (a state-wide collaboration of co-responders), and serves as a Clinical Advisor for the Denver FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. She provides consultation services to public and private-sector agencies, school districts and businesses regarding violence risk and threat assessment. Dr. McDonald has created, developed, and sustained successful multidisciplinary teams addressing threat, child sexual abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking. She is routinely sought for expert testimony in criminal and civil cases involving major crimes.
