Joseph G. Michaels, Esq., is an Assistant Solicitor General and Senior Assistant Attorney General at the Colorado Attorney General's office, where his practice focuses on appellate, constitutional, criminal, and legislative matters. He has been lead counsel in over 500 appeals and presented over 80 oral arguments, primarily before Colorado's appellate courts. Mr. Michaels also is involved with the greater legal community, where, among other roles, he is Chair of the Colorado Bar Association Ethics Committee, Immediate past Chair of Denver's Board of Ethics, Past Chair of the Colorado Lawyer Advisory Board, and Past President of the William E. Doyle Inn of Court. He has published articles on ethics, criminal law, and land use law topics. Additionally, he has taught CLEs on a range of subjects, including a variety of ethics issues, appellate and trial practice, consumer protection investigations, criminal law matters, legislative updates, and COVID-19's impact on trial and appellate proceedings. Mr. Michaels began his career clerking for the Hon. Arthur P. Roy on the Colorado Court of Appeals. He received his J.D. from the University of Iowa.
