Shortly after being elected to the city council in Edgewater, Colorado, Sarah was selected as the council's liaison to the city's urban renewal authority and helped to oversee the amendment and restatement of the authority's redevelopment plan which identified new areas for economic development eligible for tax increment financing. In addition to making contributions in municipal policy and lawmaking, Sarah has expertise in statewide matters. Appointed by then-Governor Bill Ritter to Colorado's Peace Officer Standards and Training Board, she gained experience in policy issues regarding the training and certification of Colorado's law enforcement officers. Prior to joining the firm, Sarah served a special two-year appointment as Counsel to the Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court, working as the senior strategist and advisor to Chief Justice Michael Bender and playing a key role in decisions affecting the overall functioning and operation of Colorado's judicial branch of government. Her work included supporting the management of the entire state court system, as well as probation services which supervises more than 80,000 adults and juveniles. Sarah was also responsible for facilitating the Chief Justice's vision among the legal profession as a whole, working with state and local bar associations, Colorado's two law schools, the Chief Justice's Commission on the Legal Profession, the Colorado Access to Justice Commission, and other organizations.
