Austin E. Smith is a labor and employment defense attorney in Denver, Colorado. He routinely defends employers against single- and multi-plaintiff lawsuits in state and federal courts alleging discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour violations in addition to representing clients on both sides of restrictive covenant and trade secret disputes. Mr. Smith has also developed a subspecialty in state drug testing laws in the context of how those laws impact the workforce. He spends a significant amount of time lecturing and presenting to law students, human resources professionals, corporate clients, and continuing legal education audiences throughout the year.
Mr. Smith is the Office Managing Shareholder of Ogletree Deakins' Denver office - a position he has held since January 2014. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder and his law degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law. After law school, Mr. Smith served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable L. Scott Coogler, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He is active in the community and has served on several nonprofit boards. He is an avid follower and fan of his children's sports and activities, frequent traveler, photographer, and amateur race car driver/builder.
