Ashley . Ratliff

Ashley Ratliff, JD/MSW, is a Colorado juvenile defender with expertise in litigation of cases involving children charged as adults.  Ms. Ratliff is the Chair of the Colorado Juvenile Defender Coalition's Graham and Miller Litigation Committee and is the former Chair of their Direct File Litigation Committee which was instrumental in the 2012 legislative changes to the Direct File Statute.  Ms. Ratliff's efforts leading these committees includes collaboration with national partners and coordination of local attorneys through trainings and research surrounding issues in litigation of cases involving children in adult court and unconstitutional sentences imposed upon children in light of Miller v. Alabama and Graham v. Florida.  Part of her work on the Graham and Miller litigation committee includes creation of a Social Work internship program at Denver University and collaboration with social workers on juvenile defense teams.  Ms. Ratliff received her law degree from California Western School of Law simultaneous to receiving a master of social work from San Diego State University in San Diego, California in 2006.  The focus of this dual degree program was on juvenile justice and child advocacy.  Following graduate school, Ms. Ratliff was a Deputy State Public Defender and is currently an independent contractor with the Office of Alternate Defense Counsel where she focuses on juvenile defense and representation of children in district court.
