Honorable Roderick R. McKelvie is a member of and former Co-Chair of Covington & Burling's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice. From 1992 to 2002, he served as a United States District Court Judge for the District of Delaware and presided over a number of patent infringement cases. Since stepping down from the bench, Mr. McKelvie has advised and represented clients in commercial and intellectual property disputes at the trial and appellate level. While on the bench, and since then in private practice, he has worked to improve the procedures for presenting complex cases to juries, including having developed Delaware's model jury instructions for patent infringement cases, and the Federal Judicial Center's video for jurors, An Introduction to the Patent System.
