Michael W. Angel
2nd Judicial DistrictMichael Angel, Esq.,is currently a Senior Assistant Attorney General with the Special Prosecutions Unit in the Criminal Justice Section of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Michael attended Miami University for undergrad and received his JD from Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. For the last sixteen years he has been practicing criminal law in the State of Colorado, with prior legal experience in Ohio and North Carolina. Michael started his Colorado career practicing federal criminal defense and representing individuals through non-profit legal services for indigent and low-income clients. He started his prosecutorial career in the Breckenridge Office of the 5th Judicial District Attorney, before taking a position with the 18th Judicial District Attorney in 2012. As a Deputy and Senior Deputy District Attorney, Michael founded a specific unit for the District, focusing on the investigation and prosecution of large-scale criminal organizations engaged in drug trafficking and racketeering crimes, and the use of wiretap surveillance. In 2016, Michael took a position with the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. As a Senior Assistant Attorney General he currently works closely with state agencies and task forces on complex large-scale drug investigations and violations of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act, provides litigation support for local district attorneys’ offices, and prosecutes election related offenses. Michael also teaches throughout the State of Colorado, and the greater Rocky Mountain Region, in the areas of drug investigation, search and seizure, electronic surveillance, wiretap investigation, constitutional limitations concerning advancing technology and prosecutorial ethics.
