Jim W. Douglas
11th Circuit, 5th Division, Kanawha CountyHonorable James Wilson Douglas was elected in 2016 to the position of Family Law Judge, 11th District, 5th Division, in and for the largest and most populous county (Kanawha) in West Virginia. Mr. Douglas received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Charleston, and his M.A. and J.D. from West Virginia University. He is a former adjunct professor of business and family law at Glenville State and Fairmont State Colleges in West Virginia, and he has conducted numerous family law seminars and continuing legal education conferences across his home State. Jim has served two three-year (3) terms as a member of the West Virginia State Bar Board of Governors for the 12th District. After having chaired the West Virginia State Bar Family Law Committee for four consecutive years, 1997-2000, Douglas was reappointed to the chair position in May 2007, which he vacated at the end of his term in May 2010. The West Virginia attorney has been an active member of the AMERICAN ACADEMY OF MATRIMONIAL LAWYERS since 1993; and he has been named in Best Lawyers of America - WV- Family Law, every year since 2006. The West Virginia jurist has written two family law articles that were published in the ABA Family Advocate, Summer 2008; and he has presented more than once at the ABA Family Law Section and LEI conferences. Mr. Douglas is admitted to practice in the States of West Virginia and Colorado, but he is on judicial inactive status in both jurisdictions. The Mountain State native, 67, is divorced, and he has three (3) children and five (5) grandchildren. Jim's Significant Other is Phyllis Veith, a retired educator.
