Andrew J. Demetriou is a counselor and strategic advisor with extensive experience in the healthcare industry. He has worked with nonprofit and for-profit hospitals and hospital systems, health plans, physician organizations, and specialty services providers, which rely on his advice in strategic transactions, including network and healthcare delivery system development, merger and acquisition transactions, regulatory compliance matters, and corporate governance.  He maintains a law practice with Lamb & Kawakami, LLP in Los Angeles, California as well as a consulting practice as a Managing Director of the national firm Berkeley Research Group, LLC. Mr. Demetriou provides healthcare clients and their counsel with the benefit of his 25 years of experience as partner at two of the largest law firms in the world, Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P. (now Norton Rose Fulbright) and Jones Day, at which he served as a leader of corporate and healthcare practice groups. Mr. Demetriou is a nationally recognized author and speaker on topics including legal issues affecting the healthcare industry, corporate transactions, corporate governance, corporate compliance, legal and business ethics, and professional responsibility. He has made presentations at more than 125 legal and business conferences, and has served for many years as Co-Chair of the Law Education Institute National Health Law Conference.  His legal writings have appeared in publications of the American Bar Association, American Health Lawyers Association, Bureau of National Affairs, American Lawyer Media, and the Los Angeles County Bar.  His contributions to books include “The Role of Directors in Corporate Compliance,” in the 2015 Health Law and Compliance Update (Wolters Kluwer) (with William W. Horton) and “Healthcare Integration: Structural and Legal Issues,” published as part of the BNA Health Law & Business Series (with Thomas E. Dutton). Mr. Demetriou has a long record of leadership in the organized bar.  His positions with the American Bar Association include service as a member of the Board of Governors, Chair of the Health Law Section, Chair of the Annual Meeting Program Committee and as a member of the Standing Committee on Meetings and Travel. He has also held committee leadership positions in the American Health Lawyers Association and its predecessor, the American Academy of Healthcare Attorneys. He is a former member of the Board of the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation, served as Chair of the Los Angeles County Delegation to the California State Bar Conference of Delegates and a member of the Executive Committee of the Barristers of the Los Angeles County Bar.  He is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and Los Angeles County Bar Foundation. Mr. Demetriou has also been engaged in a variety of community activities during his career. He presently serves as special counsel to the Dwight Eisenhower Memorial Commission, a federal body charged with establishing a memorial to President Eisenhower in Washington, DC, designed by the world renowned architect, Frank Gehry.
