Denise W. DeFranco is a partner with the law firm of Foley Hoag LLP in Boston, Massachusetts, where she represents high technology companies in complex patent litigation matters in a broad range of technical specialties, including biotechnology, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. Ms. DeFranco began her career at the United States Patent and Trademark Office where she worked for three years as a Patent Examiner in the biomedical arts, and then two years in the Office of the Assistant Commissioner for Legislation and International Affairs. After clerking for two years for the Honorable Paul R. Michel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Ms. DeFranco joined private practice. Ms. DeFranco earned her J.D. with Honors from George Washington University in 1991, and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University in 1985. Ms. DeFranco is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Virginia, the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals for the First, Fourth, and Federal Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. DeFranco is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
